Tracing the origin of diamonds is actually only a very recent concept, and has only been introduced by GIA (The Gemological Institute of America) in the past couple of years.As the availability of lab-grown diamonds is increasing, people are more aware of the importance of the origins of their natural diamonds, and excitingly this is something that more suppliers are working to offer.However at this point in time, it is very rare to be able to trace the origins of a diamond. This is only possible on diamond roughs at the time that they are mined, and tracing must be completed before the roughs are cut or polished into the stones that we source from our suppliers.Relative to the number of diamonds currently available in the world, only a tiny fraction are at the rough stage where their origin can be traced and recorded with these revolutionary new technologies and systems.Unfortunately, this is not something that we are regularly able to access in the range of diamonds that we source from our current network of trusted suppliers.
