What is the difference between Natural and Lab-Grown Diamonds?Updated 2 months ago
A lab-grown diamond is precisely that, a diamond.
The difference lies in the growth process. What makes natural diamonds so special, is that they have formed over a billion or more years in the earth. Lab-grown diamonds are grown under highly controlled laboratory conditions that replicate the Earth's natural growth process of crystallising carbon. Using specific technology that uses temperatures, gases, and pressures, gemstone quality diamonds can be formed in a lab over a matter of months. This means each lab-grown diamond will have variation in appearance and grading, just like diamonds formed naturally.
Chemically, optically and physically, there isn't a difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds.
They are graded on the same scale, and have exactly the same physical properties.
The only difference is the growth process, and the price. Lab-grown diamonds are significantly less expensive than natural diamonds.
